TDU Chapter 499
Chapter 499 The Game’s True Exit
Terrestrial Rabbit twisted his body and dove aside, letting that pitch-black object explode spectacularly in the middle of the room.
His current state was undeniably wretched; for the first time in a long while, he seemed to be driven into retreat by another participant.
“You motherfu—! Chen Junnan!! You think I’m afraid of you?!” Terrestrial Rabbit roared. Then, snapping back to himself, he startled. “Wait…not Chen Junnan…is he not Song Seven?”
Song Seven, too, slowly furrowed his brow inside the room. He had clearly heard Terrestrial Rabbit shout Chen Junnan’s name several times. What was going on?
Despite his all-out assault on Terrestrial Rabbit, his focus remained unwaveringly fixed on Chen Junnan.
For Song Seven, this situation was genuinely hard to comprehend.
‘So our captain isn’t just unpredictable in his thinking. His ability is this unorthodox too?’ Song Seven let out a soft laugh and took two steps forward, nearing the door. ‘You once claimed that, in a dire moment, you could keep me alive. I trust you now… but how did you accomplish it?’
Using the wall for cover, Terrestrial Rabbit slanted his frame and fixed Song Seven with a piercing stare. “Hey, punk. What kind of trick did you people pull on me?”
“I honestly don’t know,” Song Seven shook his head. “I merely acted according to my duty. Everything beyond that was never mine to command.”
“You…” Unease prickled at Terrestrial Rabbit. He had been in the same room as Song Seven the entire time. If the players had devised any new strategy, he should have heard it immediately. So why had all sound so suddenly vanished?
Reflecting on this, he swept his gaze across the room; it still had four doors.
He had just been in Room {Six}, flanked by two four-door rooms: Room {Ten} and Room {Seven}.
So now, which of those two rooms was he actually in?
Terrestrial Rabbit weighed it over in his mind. If he were currently in Room {Ten}, then the room directly adjacent to the south would be Room {Fourteen}, dangerously close to the other {Participants}. Rather than continuing to tangle with Song Seven, it would be better to cut off the others’ route as early as possible. Otherwise, the game would truly be lost.
But that, too, was difficult. He could not lock doors right now, and the room he needed to go to, Room {Fourteen}, lay directly opposite the room occupied by Song Seven. For reasons unknown, this man had somehow obtained throwing projectiles again. Opening the door right in front of him would be exceedingly dangerous.
‘Wait…throwing projectiles…?’ Terrestrial Rabbit narrowed his crimson eyes slightly and leaned sideways to peer out through the doorway. Sure enough, the pieces fell into place before him.
“Terrestrial Rabbit…” Song Seven’s lips had begun to pale. He realised Terrestrial Rabbit had already figured out his method of attack, yet he still forced out a smile. “I only have five attacks left, so don’t be too afraid.”
He raised his left hand, already blasted to ruin. The pinky and ring finger were completely torn off.
“Are you insane…?” Terrestrial Rabbit felt that not a single person who had come to participate in this game was afraid of death. It was, without question, the strangest situation he had ever encountered.
If all the participants in {End Point} possessed this kind of resolve, wouldn’t the {Earthly Branches} have gone extinct long ago?
“No… people like you are always the minority…”
Most of the time, the {Earthly Branches} didn’t even need to act. {Participants} would fall into chaos on their own through schemes and infighting, sabotaging one another and turning a game that could have been cleared easily into something impossibly complex. Such was human nature.
“But what kind of karmic sin did I commit?” Terrestrial Rabbit frowned and muttered to himself. “You damn lunatics, do you not understand that the way to clear this game is {delaying time}? As long as you never spend your action points, just wait until nightfall, until I’m forced to leave the venue and abandon the divine artifact. Then all surviving participants can then leave directly… And yet what do you do? One by one, you hurl yourselves into the fray, risking your lives just to seize my artifact—each more eager to die here than the last! Am I some phony {Terrestrial-grade}?! Do none of you feel even the slightest fear of me?!”
The more Terrestrial Rabbit spoke, the more agitated he became, feeling as though he had suffered a profound insult.
“Clearly you’ve already seen through the fact that {the game has no time limit}… yet you keep playing mind games, scheming in every way possible to kill me… lunatics… six motherf*cking lunatics…” Terrestrial Rabbit leaned back against the wall, keeping as much distance from Song Seven as possible, while rapidly sorting through the current situation in his mind.
At this point, he no longer had any way to continue stalling for time. The tactic he had devised had, absurdly enough, failed him instead.
If he kept dragging this out, the one who would lose would only be himself.
Just then, Terrestrial Rabbit’s ears twitched slightly, and he actually caught faint murmurs coming from a nearby room.
Earlier, while locked in fierce combat with Song Seven in the same room, he had naturally failed to notice such subtle sounds. Now, it seemed his hearing had recovered somewhat.
“The divine artifact should be… in the room to our {North}, right?” one voice asked softly. “At Room {Seven}?”
“Probably. Song Seven’s voice was coming from that direction,” another person replied.
“Keep your voice down…that rabbit’s hearing should be weakened right now. Stay low and find a way to circle around and grab the divine artifact.”
“I’ll go check the situation first. You go regroup with the others.”
Terrestrial Rabbit closed his eyes, using both ears to continuously capture those extremely faint sounds. The two of them spoke almost entirely in whispers, their caution unmistakable.
Not to mention that there was a room separating him from them, even if they were in the same room, an ordinary person would never have been able to clearly hear such hushed murmurs.
But unfortunately for them… I’m a {rabbit}.
With his eyes closed, Terrestrial Rabbit reconstructed the situation in his mind.
Based on what they had said, their {North} was Room {Seven}, which meant they were currently in Room {Eleven}.
And since they were adjacent to him, it was clear he was in Room {Ten}.
‘As long as my hearing still works… I will never lose my sense of direction.’ A faint smile surfaced on Terrestrial Rabbit’s face as he looked toward the direction from which the voices had come earlier. All of his action points had already been used up, and the participants’ turn was about to begin.
He only heard the sound of doors opening nearby. His hearing had recovered only slightly, not fully, so he could only judge that the noises were not coming from the rooms directly adjacent to his own. The exact direction was still unclear.
“Hey, Song Seven, I think there’s no need for you to keep torturing yourself,” Terrestrial Rabbit called out, knowing that the most urgent matter right now was dealing with the man before him. Otherwise, he would certainly obstruct his actions in the next round. “Even if you throw all your fingers at me, you still won’t be able to kill me. You’re only inflicting more pain on yourself.”
Song Seven was just about to reply when he suddenly heard a soft voice at his ear. He raised his right hand and lightly covered it.
“Yes, Six jie.” Song Seven nodded. “It’s over already…that fast?”
Terrestrial Rabbit turned slightly to look at the man in the room and found him standing in place, talking to himself.
“Helping us won’t be necessary,” Song Seven said. “We’re too far apart. The battle here is fierce, and a victor will likely emerge soon. You won’t reach in time… Correct, I’m not sure who will win.”
“Our captain?” Song Seven gave a bitter smile. “It’s difficult to put into words… when you think him unreliable, he somehow inspires calm. Yet when you actually lean on him, his recklessness is unmatched. He is a teammate that defies comprehension.”
“Noted. Go and aid Xiao Nine. Remember to inform me of Five ge’s position. Xiao Jiang Ten should be injured. When the game concludes, we’ll reconvene.”
