TDU Chapter 482
Chapter 482 Dark Hair
Chen Junnan led the other five and naturally split into two teams.
Seeing this formation, Terrestrial Rabbit could not help but frown.
The split teams were no different from what he had imagined. Six people divided into two groups of three.
This group, who had looked fairly intelligent, had actually chosen the most middle-of-the-road tactic. Was there really no better strategy?
Or… were they hiding something?
“What are you pulling now?” Terrestrial Rabbit frowned as he looked at them. “You don’t really think you can win the game like this, do you?”
“Then we’ll just take it one step at a time,” Chen Junnan said with a smile as he turned back. “You might not understand this young master. Just wait and see. This young master never makes plans when I do things.”
“Then what are you even proud of?” Terrestrial Rabbit looked at Chen Junnan in confusion, feeling that the man before him was truly bizarre. “Forget it. Do as you please.”
After hearing this, no one said anything more. They stood before their respective room doors.
As the broadcast announced {Game Start}, Song Seven and Jiang Ten opened the doors at the same time and headed into their respective rooms. After the others followed them inside, they turned back and closed the doors behind them.
The advantage of splitting each team into three people revealed itself at this moment.
Among the three, one person was responsible for opening the door, one for closing it, and one for locking it. At the same time, everyone was still able to move once. This was, so far, the most optimal way to advance.
Terrestrial Rabbit glanced at the two doors being locked simultaneously and shook his head with a smile.
Even if they could keep locking the doors behind them, did they really think they could win the game that way?
Once both doors were locked, Terrestrial Rabbit slowly walked to the door Chen Junnan’s team had gone through and waited there.
At that moment, the broadcast sounded: “All {participants} have completed their actions. {Earthly Branch}, please proceed.”
At this, Terrestrial Rabbit reached out and unlocked the door in front of him. After a brief pause, he then pushed the door open.
Chen Junnan, Jiang Ten, and Cui Fourteen were now standing face to face with Terrestrial Rabbit.
Because the {Earthly Branch}’s actions were also restricted, once he had {unlocked} and {opened} the door, he would exhaust all his action slots and be unable to act further. For the moment, their situation was safe.
“Oh? What a coincidence,” Chen Junnan said as he stepped forward a few paces on the teal, sticky floor. He smiled at Terrestrial Rabbit and remarked, “What brings you here? Do you work here or something?”
Terrestrial Rabbit took a steadying breath. “Are you courting death? Don’t you know I’ve already targeted you?”
“Yeah yeah yeah.” Chen Junnan nodded. “We’re practically honored. Just take it easy later. Don’t get yourself so worked up that you drop dead.”
“Drop dead?” Terrestrial Rabbit let out a cold laugh. “I’m counting down the minutes.”
Before long, the broadcast sounded again, and the turn once more passed to the {participants}.
“Let’s go,” Chen Junnan said, giving the other two a look. Jiang Ten immediately understood and closed the door.
A few seconds later, a crisp click of locking echoed out. The doors here were specially constructed, with locks and handles visible on both sides.
“Oh…?” Terrestrial Rabbit felt a trace of confusion. Choosing to lock the door at a moment like this meant someone would no longer be able to {move}, didn’t it?
Could this team truly be different from the others?
Among them stood people who were willing to face death voluntarily?
“Have you lost your minds?” Terrestrial Rabbit asked through the door. “Do you even know what you’re doing right now?”
“None of your damn business,” Chen Junnan’s muffled voice came from the other side. “Why would we tell you what we’re going to do? You’re getting ahead of yourself. Come and get me if you can!”
“You really are courting death…” Terrestrial Rabbit said through clenched teeth. “Very well. Then go on and court death to your hearts’ content.”
Following their agreed-upon plan, they split into two routes starting from the room before them. On Song Seven’s side, he signaled the other two teammates to continue forward, while he stayed behind, closed the door the other two members had left from, and locked it.
At this point, Terrestrial Rabbit had completely lost sight of all the players. Not only was he entirely trapped in the initial room, and even with an infinitesimal chance of getting out, there was no assurance he could hunt everyone down in a short span of time.
Chen Junnan quickly calculated their coordinates; they were currently in Room {Five}. To reach Room {Sixteen} would take a minimum of five turns. Song Seven’s team was in a similar situation; they would also reach the destination in five turns.
All they could do now was hope to meet at the final room.
Chen Junnan walked toward the east door and reached out to open Room {Six}. Before he even stepped inside, he frowned after only a single glance.
This room was different from the others. At some point, a small table had appeared. On top of it lay a small bundle of black hair, tied together with a red string. It looked like a lock of dark hair with a faint brown tint mixed in.
Chen Junnan and Cui Fourteen exchanged a glance. They should have come through this room earlier while the group was {lost}, but neither of them remembered any small table being here. Had someone placed it here moments ago…or had some kind of mechanism triggered in the rooms after the game began?
“Captain, what is this…?” Cui Fourteen stepped up to examine the bundle more carefully and sensed an underlying peculiarity.
“Hmm…” Chen Junnan showed no trace of fear as he stepped ahead and examined the bundle in his palm.
Though it resembled hair, it felt unexpectedly tough to the touch.
“What the heck is this?” Chen Junnan frowned, studying it again and again. He even lifted it to his nose and sniffed. There was no distinct scent at all, only the pervasive stench of rot filling his nostrils.
Far too many people had died in these rooms. The smell here was even heavier than outside, and the floor itself felt tacky underfoot.
Cui Fourteen squatted beside Chen Junnan, worked up her courage, and picked up the bundle as well. She examined the red string closely and discovered that a tiny metal tag hung from its end, engraved with two words: {Divine Ability (神通)}.
“{Divine Ability}…? What the fuck is {Divine Ability} supposed to be?” Seeing the two words as well, Chen Junnan grew even more perplexed.
“This bundle of hair is a {Divine Ability}?” Cui Fourteen racked her brain, but found no answer.
A few seconds later, Chen Junnan’s brows suddenly lifted; a light bulb had lit above his head. “Da jie, give that hair to me. I believe I know what this is.”
Cui Fourteen handed the bundle of hair forward. “What is it?”
“This is damn well the great Monkey King’s monkey hair, the {Divine Ability} that lets him create {clones from his fur}!” Chen Junnan declared. “Step back. I’ll toss it on the ground, summon all the monkeys from Mount Huaguo, and give the children something to marvel at.”
“Huh?!” Cui Fourteen jumped, clearly startled by Chen Junnan’s words. “Captain, you can't be serious, right?!”
“What else would I be?” Chen Junnan said, holding the tuft of black hair. “What other {Divine Ability} has to do with a bundle of hair?”
This time, Cui Fourteen lowered her head and carefully considered Chen Junnan’s words. From a logical standpoint, he wasn’t wrong, but she found it difficult to take it at face value.
A bundle of black hair…that qualifies as a {Divine Ability}? But Sun Wukong’s fur isn’t even black…
“Captain, my thoughts are as follows,” Cui Fourteen began. “This thing wasn’t present while we were {lost}, and Terrestrial Rabbit didn’t mention it when explaining the {rules}. It’s clearly been deliberately concealed. If we had seen this bundle of hair in advance, it may have increased his chances of losing.”
“Hmm…” Chen Junnan stroked his chin and nodded. “Da jie, you’ve got a point.”
“For now, it may be wise to keep it and explore the other rooms for similar objects,” Cui Fourteen remarked, casting her eyes to the next door. “Upon gathering the remaining props, the meaning of this hair as a {Divine Ability} should be evident.”
TL Note: I decided not to make an inserted note for Sun Wukong’s fur-clone ability because of how popular Black Myth got.
Sun Wukong (aka Monkey King) has many abilities, one of which is to create clones from any of the hairs on his body. It’s a skill playable in the game, called ‘A Pluck of Many’. Also, Mount Huaguo, or Flowers and Fruit Mountain, is the birthplace of Wukong.
And yeah, as you can see, he has golden fur, not black, so Cui Fourteen is right to suspect…
