Chapter 481 Door-Closing Disciple
“You… you…” Song Seven felt his thoughts turn muddled. After exchanging only a few sentences with Chen Junnan, he felt as though he had been drinking, his head spinning.
“Isn’t this plan amazing?” Chen Junnan asked. “Who decided that just because Terrestrial Rabbit tells us to {run}, we have to {run}? We just gotta find two Door-Closing Disciples and have them nonstop trash-talking him through the door. Leave him pissed and stuck at the starting point, unable to open the door or step beyond it. Isn’t this young master a genius?”
“Wait… Wait a second…” Everyone reached out to calm Chen Junnan. The plan he had proposed was simply too bizarre, leaving them unable to accept it right away.
“What?” Chen Junnan looked at them questioningly.
“Even if this plan is feasible…” Song Seven said, “what about the two {Door-Closing Disciples}? They won’t be able to escape.”
“Not necessarily.” Chen Junnan smiled. “If everything goes smoothly, only one person won’t make it out.”
“Hm?” Song Seven asked. “You still have a contingency?”
“No, I don’t.” Chen Junnan replied. “But at the critical moment, I’ll trigger my {Reverberation} and save one of the disciples. The premise of this plan is that I must become one of the Door-Closing Disciples.”
“You…” Song Seven looked at Chen Junnan. “No. What do you take us {Cats} for? To forsake one’s teammates in order to stay alive is far too despicable to tolerate.”
“What’s there to tolerate?” Chen Junnan said in confusion. “I’ve already triggered my {Reverberation} anyway. It doesn’t matter if I die.”
“Allow Jiang Ten and me to take care of this.” Song Seven said decisively. “Captain, you’re a guest among us. You can’t die in our team. Otherwise, I won’t even have the face to go back and see Five ge.”
“‘See Five ge’ my foot!” Chen Junnan waved his hand dismissively. “If you stay as a {Door-Closing Disciple}, you won’t be seeing him either. I’m the one with the highest seniority here. That settles it.”
After hearing this, the others could only exchange silent glances, a faint discomfort lingering in their minds.
{Cats} had survived on their own in {End Point} for so many years. How could they possibly rely on a captain who had only just joined to save them?
Song Seven slowly rolled his neck, bent down to stretch his legs, then turned to look at Jiang Ten.
Jiang Ten nodded. “Understood.”
He tucked his hands into the sleeves of his changshan and rose unhurriedly to his feet, his eyes regaining a spark of vigor.
“Captain, it’s not that we don’t trust you,” Song Seven remarked. It’s simply that outsiders always come through safely when with {Cats}. These two {Door-Closing Disciples} will be handled by Jiang Ten and me.”
“Hm?” Chen Junnan turned to look at the two of them, already braced for action. “I doubt this is going to work out.”
“Perhaps it might succeed,” Song Seven said. “Although I don’t know what your {Reverberation} is, I have a feeling your ability isn’t exactly benign. Unleashing it will probably kill you.”
“Uh…” Chen Junnan let out a wry laugh. “You’re sharper than I thought.”
“However, Jiang Ten and I may not necessarily meet the same fate.” Song Seven said as he continued to warm up his arms, then looked at Chen Junnan. “Xiao Fourteen had inquired for us just now. We can retaliate against the {Hunter}. If I go all out, I can tear off one of his arms. And if Jiang Ten goes all out…”
“What can he do?” Chen Junnan asked, a hint of anticipation in his voice.
“…he can exhaust the {Hunter} to death.”
Jiang Ten lifted his chin with a trace of pride, as though he had just been praised.
“What kind of bullshit is that?” Chen Junnan thought he had misheard. “You call that {Unbreakable Spirit}? I thought you could actually go toe-to-toe with him.”
“Why don’t you try to go toe-to-toe with him?!” Jiang Ten snapped irritably. “Are you really that stupid? That’s a Terrestrial-grade Earthly Branch!”
“Alright, alright…” Chen Junnan nodded helplessly. “You two are sure you can handle it?”
“Yes,” the two of them said. “Leave this to us.”
“Okay.” Chen Junnan thought for a moment, then nodded. “Then I have one last thing to say.”
“Go ahead.” Everyone fixed their eyes on him, faces solemn.
“We need to confirm our coordinates,” Chen Junnan pointed at the diagram he had carved into the wall. “I’m worried someone will get lost later. Once you’re in the center rooms, you completely lose all sense of direction.”
“How do we do this?” Everyone stared at the ‘grid’ on the wall.
“Even though our orientation may be jumbled, we still need to coordinate using {north on top, south on bottom, west on left, east on right}.” Chen Junnan said. “For example, the room we’re in now only has an {east door} and a {south door}. Most of the other rooms have four doors. Even if someone loses their sense of direction, it won’t matter. The others can guide them back using these directions.”
Seeing that they still did not quite understand, Chen Junnan pointed at the two doors again. “Say I leave through the {east door}, and Xiao Song leaves through the {north door}. If Xiao Song gets lost, he can shout for help, and I’ll tell him that I’m to his {northeast}.”
“If that’s the case, as long as one person has a strong sense of direction, none of us will get lost,” Cui Fourteen furrowed her brows in thought. “This is actually quite a clever idea.”
“We also need to mark every room,” Chen Junnan continued, pointing at the grid on the wall. “To know our coordinates precisely, we’ll call the room we’re in now Room {One}. Moving to the right will be {Two, Three, Four}. The second row will be {Five, Six, Seven, Eight}, and so on, all the way to Room {Sixteen}.”
“Noted.”
After settling on their tactics, Chen Junnan quietly moved to the door and flung it open, then glanced into the room beyond.
That buff, plump rabbit was sitting far from the doorway with his eyes closed, resting. There was no sign at all that he had been eavesdropping.
Only after hearing the door open did Terrestrial Rabbit slowly open his eyes. “Finished?”
“You really are something,” Chen Junnan said with a smile. “Such a perfect opportunity, and you didn’t even try to listen in?”
“It doesn’t matter.” Terrestrial Rabbit shook his head. “I have my own strategy. No matter what schemes you come up with, I can deal with them.”
“That’s wonderful news.” Chen Junnan nodded. “Plump Rabbit, hurry up and come over to meet your death. We’ve finished discussing things on our side.”
Terrestrial Rabbit let out a cold snort, stood up, dusted off the dirt beneath him, and then stepped into the room one pace at a time.
“In that case, let me reiterate one last time.” After entering the room, Terrestrial Rabbit swept his gaze across everyone and spoke slowly. “Once the game begins, it will first be your turn, then mine. As long as you reach the farthest room on the opposite diagonal, it will count as your victory.”
“You’ve said that eight hundred times already. Are you starting or not?” Chen Junnan lifted his chin and asked. “This young master is carrying a heavy burden here. Let’s hurry it up.”
After hearing this, Terrestrial Rabbit said nothing more. Instead, he pulled a strange remote control from his pocket and pressed a button.
The remote looked as though it had been carved from emerald-green bamboo, slender like a finger, with a thin red cord tied to it.
From every room came {rustling} sounds.
A distinctly mechanical voice echoed from above their heads. “I am the voice guide for this game. The game will begin in three minutes.”
After hearing the announcement, Terrestrial Rabbit straightened the red cord on the bamboo remote, hung it back around his neck, then walked to the side and leaned calmly against the wall.
TL Note: Updated the map; it now has numbers~
