Chapter 131 Does Lord Ye really mean duplicity or the addiction of Long-yang? (1)

Early in the morning, the Academy's scheduled alarm rang throughout campus. Wen Yantong continued to ignore the bell and snoozed in her warm blanket. In contrast, Chi Jingxi got up with much hesitation. He washed his face, got dressed, and tied his hair up. When he was just about done preparing himself, Wen Yantong had wrapped herself up like a cocoon, still nestled on the couch.

Chi Jingxi walked to her couch, but neither lifted the quilt nor kicked the couch frame. Instead, he leaned over, moved his hand into the blanket, and put his hand into the back of Wen Yantong's neck.

After waking up in the morning, Chi Jingxi's hands were very cold. For Wen Yantong, who was warm all over, that was an almost lethal move. She cried out all of a sudden, shrunk her neck, and turned her head to look at the perpetrator’s face.

There was a smile in Chi Jingxi’s eyes. "You still aren’t getting up? When do you plan to sleep in until?"

Wen Yantong rubbed her eyes. When she noticed that Chi Jingxi was fully dressed, she hurriedly sat up while still holding onto her blanket, and asked in a hoarse voice, "What time is it?"

"Morning class is about to start." Chi Jingxi said, "Get yourself ready, I’ll be leaving first."

And just like that, Wen Yantong watched him walk around the screen, put on a cloak, and exited the dorm. The room fell silent for a while. She soon remembered that the morning Jia class started ten minutes earlier than that of other classes, so Chi Jingxi had to leave early.

She hurriedly got up and put on her clothes when a servant brought in a pot of hot water. After hastily washing up, she took two pieces of pastries from the table, and then hurried to the morning class.

But even after her haste, Wen Yantong was still late to class. There was no teacher present, but the students had already packed the whole room. The student who was usually responsible for taking attendance looked up at her, and then looked back down again.

Wen Yantong exhaled a long breath. After rushing all the way here, she was still late, and now her name would be recorded on the record. Just great. Today's morning lecturer just so happened to be Li Boyuan, so she’s most likely going to be made to copy more essays as a punishment.

Feeling somewhat regretful. If she had known earlier, then she would have made Chi Jingxi scold her before he went out.

When she walked towards her assigned seat, Mu Yang was dozing off with his face in his hands. The noble sons, who usually didn’t have to attend morning classes in winter, lost his privileges after they were made to dorm in the Academy. Mu Yang was still not used to this sudden change, so he began to doze off as soon as his butt touched his seat.

Fu Zixian fared much better. He sometimes attended morning class, so his condition was as usual. After seeing Wen Yantong, he put down the book, and asked worriedly, "How is your leg? Is it still hurting badly?"

Wen Yantong was confused, "It stopped hurting a long time ago, why are you asking this all of a sudden?"

Fu Zixian heaved a sigh of relief and replied "On the way here, I met the Little Marquis. He said that your leg injury had relapsed, so you were going to be late for class. He even asked Young Master Mu to inform the person taking attendance not to write you down because of it."

Wen Yantong was shocked, never had she thought that Chi Jingxi would help her cheat!

Is the sun coming out of the gutter?[1]

Wen Yantong remained in a state of shock for a long while. When she finally recovered, morning class had already ended, so she woke up Mu Yang who was dozing off, and the three went to the dining hall together.

In order to take care of these noble sons, the dining hall allocated a few vacant rooms to be used as private dining rooms. This way, the young masters with bad relations did not have to not sit and eat together. But the fact of the matter was that most people would usually go back to their private dorms and eat the meals brought over from their house.

Fu Zixian wasn't that particular about the food here, moreover he had no status in his family, so no one would deliver him meals. Hence, he and Wen Yantong ate in the dining hall all the time. Mu Yang didn't care too much either, so he also tagged along.

Chi Jingxi and Cheng Xin were the only two who ate in their private dorm, so when Wen Yantong went back at night, Chi Jingxi’s face was gloomy once again.

Wen Yantong thought about it, and guessed the most likely cause. Chi Jingxi must have felt that she was avoiding him, which resulted in his bad mood. Afterall, it’s not a good feeling if someone, who you regarded as a friend, would always reject your presence and try to avoid you all the time.

And so, Wen Yantong pestered Chi Jingxi all night. When copying articles together, Wen Yantong also drew a lot of chibi-version animals. Novel figures of blue whale, tiger shark, and tuna, and even Squidward were shown off.

Chi Jingxi's unhappiness subsided quickly. Wen Yantong only lingered around for a while, but his complexion improved a lot, and no longer disdained her drawings like when she showed off Old Man Ding or psyduck. Chi Jingzhe would take a look whenever Wen Yantong finished a sketch. Although from his indifferent expression, he was also not very impressed by Wen Yantong's pop-culture knowledge.

Ignorant fogey. Wen Yantong snorted lightly.

The two sat on the desk in the study. Chi Jingxi was copying articles while Wen Yantong was immersed in her masterpiece. Sometimes the two of them would not interfere with each other, and at other times Wen Yantong would come to him and talk to him about what she drew, or ask about a certain area in the article.

That night passed surprisingly harmoniously, and Chi Jingxi didn't blame her for being half-hearted and not studying hard.

The next day, Wen Yantong and Fu Zixian followed Mu Yang, to sit at one table with Chi Jingxi, and Cheng Xin.

Wen Yantong didn't like to eat vegetables, other than cabbage, she didn’t pick any other greens onto her bowl. When Chi Jingxi discovered this, he moved several servings of vegetables into her bowl with his chopsticks. Once the pile of green was piled up high, he said, "Eat more vegetables and you’ll grow taller."

Wen Yantong retorted, "Eating more meat will help me grow taller!"

Chi Jingxi added, "Vegetables can also help you."

"I just want to eat meat." Wen Yantong replied.

"If you eat more vegetables, you can copy one less article tonight, but if you eat more meat, you will copy one more." Chi Jingxi said lightly, "If you become short in stature, then raise your literature comprehension, that will make up for your inadequacy."

Wen Yantong silently ate all the food in her bowl, and muttered in the end, "I'd rather be a simple dwarf..."

Several days passed peacefully and soon it was their rest day.

Wen Yantong had made arrangements with Fu Zixian and Fu Tanghuan to go out together, so she got up early and left.

When Chi Jingxi woke up, Wen Yantong was already nowhere to be seen.

And so, he spent the whole day alone; his mode calm yet irritable. It's okay if he wasn’t spoken to, but when one talked to him, it was like lighting a firecracker.

Cheng Xin had gone back to the palace, so only Mu Yang and Chi Jingxi sat together during lunch time.

Although Chi Jingxi was silent while eating, Mu Yang could feel that he was not in a good mood, so he asked, "Brother Xi, you don’t seem so happy today, what's the matter?"

"There is no ‘matter’." Chi Jingxi replied calmly, "I am the most idle person in the whole Academy. Even Wen Yantong has someone to accompany, but only I am stuck sitting in my room during our rest day."

It’s hard to describe his current feelings.

Even the usually slow Mu Yang had already put together the clues, "Brother Xi, are you blaming Wen Yantong for not inviting you?"

"Why do I care about that?" Chi Jingxi frowned, "He can go out with whoever he wants, it’s not like I care about it. He doesn't have to tell me when he goes out, it’s not like I’m anyone to him."

Mu Yang smacked his lips and said, "Then let's go out for a walk after lunch."

Chi Jingxi immediately refused, "No!"

Mu Yang didn't follow up with anything else and just silently lowered his head to eat his food. When they were about to part ways after their meal, he said to Chi Jingxi, "Brother Xi, do you still remember the story about Lord Ye's passion for dragons?"

Chi Jingxi was puzzled by this sudden question. "What are you trying to say?"

"I think you are that Lord Ye." Mu Yang said.

He left without telling Chi Jingxi why. But because of this sentence, Chi Jingxi was left in a daze for a whole afternoon. There was a book in his hand, but he hadn't read a single word for several hours.

Mu Yang left the remaining words unsaid, so the remaining half could only be speculated.

Whether it was duplicity or an addiction of Long-yang, it was for Chi Jingxi himself to decide.

Footnote:

[1] Is the sun coming out of the gutter - this is an altercation to the common idiom: sun rising from the west, which means something unexpected happened. Like the phrase, 'is it the end of the world?' Or are the pigs flying? Or is it a blue moon?
