Chapter 47

Chi Ye’s lips was as hot as his body, enough to turn blood into molten lava. With his reckless and aggressive intrusion, Wen Xiao had no choice but to brace his palm firmly against the desk, forcing his head back. The muscles of his neck tensed, drawn tight like the strings of an ancient zither.

Breathing became a struggle, and between kisses, Wen Xiao managed to speak. “What’s with the biting?” His voice remained cold, but the tremor in his tone betrayed a softness, like the flutter of a feather.

The taste of iron spread in his mouth, and Chi Ye, lips now warmed by Wen Xiao’s, spoke in a hoarse voice. “This is your Chi-ge's first kiss. After practicing a bit, I won’t bite you anymore.” Not long after, he let out a hiss. “Tsk—” He chuckled helplessly, “That was a bit too much.”

He wasn’t sure if his bottom lip had been bitten through, but the sharp pain didn’t stop Chi Ye. Instead, he pressed deeper.

It wasn’t until Wen Xiao struggled to swallow that he threw a punch. Chi Ye swiftly caught his fist, pulling back his lips with a small chuckle. “Your strength is weaker than usual.”

They pulled apart, both of them wounded. Wen Xiao’s mouth was bleeding at the corner, and Chi Ye’s lower lip wasn’t much better.

With a casual flick of his tongue, Chi Ye licked at the wound on his lip, leaving a glistening trail behind. His hand, however, still held Wen Xiao’s fist, refusing to let go.

The night breeze, as if it had waited until now, finally swept in from the window, dispersing the heavy scent of pheromones that had filled the room. Wen Xiao adjusted his silver-rimmed glasses, carefully placing them back on, concealing the flush at the corners of his eyes. “Is there anywhere else that needs ointment?”

Chi Ye, with no intention of being serious, grinned. “No need for anything else. How about the one on your lips?”

Wen Xiao’s gaze flickered to Chi Ye's lips for barely a second, before he quickly turned away, as if he had been electrocuted. His response was stiff and curt. “No need.”

Looking at Wen Xiao, Chi Ye slowly reined in all of his playful air. “I can’t promise I’ll stop taking dangerous jobs, like being a sparring partner. But I do promise I’ll do my best to protect myself. If I get even a minor injury, I’ll make sure to report it to you.”

His tone was unusually serious.

Wen Xiao tightened his grip on the iodine swab in his hand, holding it for a long time before finally responding with a single word. “Okay.”

As he reached the door, Chi Ye turned back, tapping his finger against his lower lip. “By the way, are you responsible for this?”

Wen Xiao stood still, replying with Chi Ye’s own words. “As long as you want me to, I’ll take responsibility. How's that?”

“Damn,” Chi Ye’s throat rumbled with amusement, “I should’ve known you’d use that line against me. I should’ve said that I’d be willing to take full responsibility.”

A faint smile spread across Wen Xiao’s eyes. “It’s too late to regret now.”

Chi Ye’s response was quick, his tone carrying a hint of meaning. “I won’t regret it.”

The next day, when Wen Xiao arrived at the classroom, Old Xu was already there, standing in the hallway, talking to Xu Rui. “Xu Rui, you need to be more confident. Changing answers on a multiple-choice test is painful. I’ve seen you change three answers, and all three were wrong.”

Xu Rui was nearly in tears. “Teacher, I don’t usually do this! It only happens when you’re standing behind me!”

Old Xu finally understood, his expression shifting. “So that’s the reason? In that case, I’ll make sure to stand there even more, to help you strengthen your mental endurance!”

Zhao Yiyang couldn’t help but snicker. “Hahaha, looks like the academic officer is going to cry his eyes out at his desk. Did Old Xu have too much breakfast today? Is he standing around to digest it?” He looked up at Wen Xiao and added, “Wait, what’s up with the cut on your lip? Did you run into a phone thief at the school gate and end up fighting to get the phone back?”

Wen Xiao almost blurted out some excuse, but then he remembered the cut on Chi Ye’s lip. He stopped himself and instead said, “I had a fight with Chi Ye.”

Zhao Yiyang was momentarily stunned, then started to think it over. “So... you two really are master and disciple! Did your master check your homework last night?”

Wen Xiao didn’t respond, letting Zhao Yiyang’s wild imagination run free.

When Chi Ye arrived at school that afternoon, he immediately received the focused attention of Zhao Yiyang and the others.

Noticing the cut on Chi Ye’s lip, with a thin scab forming over it, Shangguan Yu spoke up, “So it’s true. Looks like that fight was pretty intense.”

Xu Rui, looking regretful, muttered, “Why wasn’t I there? Otherwise, I could’ve seen Chi-ge and Wen Xiao battling it out at the peak of the Forbidden City!”

Zhao Yiyang, fully aware of Xu Rui’s nature, responded coolly, “And by tomorrow, everyone at Mingnan High, from the principal to the security guards, will know Chi-ge and Wen Xiao had a fight?”

Xu Rui immediately shut his mouth.

Piecing things together from their brief exchange, Chi Ye placed his bag on the desk, glanced at his deskmate, who was pretending to seriously solve problems but hadn’t even answered one basic fill-in-the-blank question, and smiled. “What’s this about a battle at the peak of the Forbidden City?”

Zhao Yiyang grinned. “Didn’t you and Wen Xiao get into a fight last night? Both of you ended up injured, so it must’ve been pretty intense!”

Chi Ye's smile deepened, his words laced with a meaning that no one else seemed to understand. “That’s right, we had a fight. And it was pretty intense.”

Looking at the page, a single line was drawn through the paper as if Wen Xiao had pressed so hard that it might tear through.

When Zhao Yiyang and the others stepped out of the classroom to get some air, Chi Ye reached over, gripping Wen Xiao’s chin and turning his face towards him. “How’s your lip?”

Wen Xiao didn’t pull away. Instead, he asked, “And how’s your lip?”

Chi Ye: “Feels good.”

Wen Xiao: “......”

The guy sitting next to him was too shameless. It was impossible to continue the conversation.

Everyone in Class 1 noticed that, for some reason, Chi Ye seemed particularly in a good mood that day.

When the English teacher called on him to answer a question, she couldn't help but criticize him a few times, but Chi Ye stood there patiently and listened to her finish.

Cheng Xiaoning was patrolling the halls during the break. As he entered through the front door and was about to leave through the back, he passed by the last row of desks when Chi Ye suddenly said, “Thank you for your hard work, Teacher Cheng.” He stumbled in surprise, wondering if he had imagined it.

This wasn’t like him at all. Something had to be wrong!

After discussing it for a while, Zhao Yiyang and Shangguan Yu began to suspect that the Chi Ye sitting behind them wasn’t the real Chi Ye but was instead someone who had taken over his body. But this guess was too unscientific. In the end, they reached a conclusion:

It must have been because of the fight last night that Chi Ye realized how much his disciple, Wen Xiao, had improved so quickly. He was genuinely pleased, and that good mood lingered on until now.

It made perfect sense, and there was no flaw in the reasoning!

After chemistry class ended, as if summoned by a magical force, the whole class spilled out in a rush.

Zhao Yiyang pulled a basketball out of his bag and tossed it skillfully toward the ceiling. However, his attempt to show off wasn’t as smooth as he’d hoped, and the ball nearly hit the fluorescent light, startling him so much that his soul almost left his body.

Shangguan Yu offered a friendly reminder. “Each fluorescent light costs 200 yuan. Master, think twice before you act.”

“Damn, 200 yuan? Is the school so broke that it’s squeezing money out of the students now?” Zhao Yiyang hugged the basketball tightly, then turned to Chi Ye, full of excitement. “Chi-ge, I brought my own ball. During free activity period in PE class, we won’t have to fight over the leaky ones in the equipment room. Wanna play a couple of rounds?”

Chi Ye turned to look at Wen Xiao.

It wasn’t entirely clear why he was looking at Wen Xiao, but since Chi Ye did, Zhao Yiyang and Shangguan Yu followed his gaze.

Wen Xiao raised an eyebrow, clearly confused. “What are you looking at me for?”

Chi Ye casually draped his arm over Wen Xiao’s slender shoulder. “From now on, if you want to challenge me to a game, you have to ask my deskmate first. If he says it’s okay, then we’ll play.”

As soon as the words left his mouth, Wen Xiao stepped on his foot.

Chi Ye inhaled sharply, but he still managed to hold the smile on his face.

Zhao Yiyang misunderstood. “Has Wen Xiao been hired as your manager, Chi-ge?” He joked, “How much is his salary?”

Chi Ye smirked. “He gets paid whatever I’m worth. What do you think, deskmate?”

Wen Xiao felt the heat from Chi Ye’s hand on his shoulder, the warmth radiating through him. He tried to suppress the sensitivity it caused and responded coldly, “It’s fine.”

But because they were so close, Chi Ye noticed something subtle — a faint red tint on Wen Xiao’s ears, exactly the same reaction he’d seen last night when he’d kissed him near the edge of the desk.

The basketball court wasn’t crowded, and one of the courts was empty. Zhao Yiyang, from a distance, tossed the ball toward the hoop but it missed. His attempt to show off completely failed.

Xu Rui, watching from behind, was laughing so hard he nearly lost his breath.

But before they could start playing, the PE teacher blew his whistle.

The PE representative was pushed forward by the others. “Teacher, what are we learning today?”

The PE teacher looked around and asked, “What do you want to learn?”

Someone quickly shouted, “We want to learn how to spend a wonderful forty minutes during free activity!”

“Oh, this student has some big ideas,” the teacher said with a grin. “Come on, step forward and run a lap first.” As the others started jogging around the track, the teacher yawned, hands behind his back. “Everyone, run three laps around the track, and once you’re done, feel free to do whatever you want. How’s that sound?”

"The teacher is wise and mighty!" The PE representative feigned concern. "Teacher, did you have insomnia last night? Your dark circles are pretty heavy."

The PE teacher waved him off and yawned again. "I borrowed a book from your homeroom teacher.I don't know which of you handed it in. I couldn't resist taking it home and read it all night. Now, I’m completely wiped. I’m going back to the office to catch some sleep."

After the PE representative led the group through three laps, the crowd scattered like a flock of startled crows. Some headed for the supermarket, others took leisurely strolls around the track, and a few dedicated students headed toward the second academic building, clearly trying to make the most of their time by studying.

The basketball court was a rare commodity. Zhao Yiyang, relying on his speed, claimed one of the courts, calling out for everyone to hurry up.

Chi Ye and Wen Xiao trailed at the back. Walking close together, their heights nearly matched, so their shoulders inevitably brushed against each other as they walked.

The slight contact stung a little, but the hidden thrill of it made Chi Ye feel strangely drawn to it. He whispered, "Closer?"

Wen Xiao caught the heat in his gaze and, with barely a shift, stepped just a bit closer to Chi Ye.

From a distance, Zhao Yiyang squinted. "What’s going on with Chi Ye and Wen Xiao? Their walking looks a little weird?"

Xu Rui shrugged, equally puzzled. "Maybe... the track's uneven?"

Considering the overall skill level of Zhao Yiyang and the others, Chi Ye and Wen Xiao played the game very casually. However, Chi Ye knew very clearly that his mind was not on the basketball at all.

Grabbing for the ball under the basket, intercepting during dribbling — this sport was filled with countless opportunities for physical contact with Wen Xiao.

Sweat covered their foreheads and necks, splashing as they jumped and ran. When they collided at the center line, their arms pressed tightly against each other under the basket, the swirling hormones almost ready to explode in the next second.

It felt as if the deepest parts of their bodies had just experienced a nuclear explosion.

The subtle tension made the air at the tips of their noses thick and heavy.

By halftime, Xu Rui was confused. “After this game, I clearly felt that Chi-ge and Wen Xiao were playing cool and fierce, but how come they barely scored any points?”

Shangguan Yu adjusted his glasses. “Maybe it’s an exhibition match. They’re probably trying to look like they’re giving it their all, so we won’t feel bad about them letting us win.”

Zhao Yiyang raised his arm triumphantly. “Chi-ge and Wen Xiao are really good people!”

Under the deep blue basketball hoop, Wen Xiao sat with his legs spread apart on a low bench. After running around the court, his fitted T-shirt was soaked through, and beads of sweat trickled down the back of his neck.

He twisted open a bottle of ice-cold cola and took several large gulps. After finishing, he casually handed the remaining half of the bottle to Chi Ye.

Chi Ye leaned against the main pole of the basketball hoop, his long legs braced against the ground. He accepted the bottle of cola from Wen Xiao without a care and brought it to his lips.

The next moment, Wen Xiao clearly saw Chi Ye’s tongue deliberately trace the rim of the bottle, before he lowered his gaze and smirked, “Tastes very sweet, don't you think?”
