Chapter 475 Capable Nüwa
Zhang Chenze stood before the open doorway for a moment, then turned back to look at Chu Tianqiu. “Can you truly let go?”
“What?” Chu Tianqiu frowned.
“Can you truly bear to let go of…the person you love?” Zhang Chenze asked quietly. “Are you planning to let Qiaoyun remain there forever?”
Outside the door, Kim Wonhun noticed their conversation wasn’t over and stepped back a few paces to give them space.
“Lawyer Zhang,” Chu Tianqiu said, “you think you’re offering counsel, but you don’t realize, everything you’re talking about, I’ve pondered through countless nights.”
“Is that so…”
“I’m telling you all this today not because I expect you to help me.” Chu Tianqiu let out a long sigh. “I only want you to understand: no one can help me here. I can rely only on myself.”
“And Qiaoyun…?”
“In these days since regaining my memories…” Chu Tianqiu shook his head. “You can’t imagine how many choices and inner battles I’ve gone through. Do you think I haven’t wished to stay here with Qiaoyun forever? But tell me, who would that be fair to?”
He sighed, a bitter smile rising on his face. “She can’t continue like this… releasing her is the best peace she can have. I shouldn’t be so selfish, forcing her life to continue. To her… that’s genuinely unfair.”
The word {unfair} struck Zhang Chenze’s heart like a weight cast heavily to the ground.
Indeed…to let Qiaoyun continue living in that muddled, vacant state was far crueller than letting her die.
Her life should have ended the moment she {failed}. For her to persist like this was no blessing but a curse.
“So you’ve already come to a decision…?” Zhang Chenze exhaled softly. “Qiaoyun can still speak with you now. She can still look into your eyes and smile. But once you let go, she will become nothing more than a pile of white bones.”
“But I will remain here with her forever.” Chu Tianqiu’s voice was quiet. “I will become the master of this place, sweep away every obstacle across this land, and leave only myself and that pile of white bones. She shall be eternal, and I shall be undying.”
Zhang Chenze nodded, murmured a faint {pardon the intrusion}, then stepped outside and closed the door.
Not far away, Kim Wonhun saw her emerge. He did not interrupt, merely stared for a moment before asking, “Jie, are you alright?”
“I’m fine.” Zhang Chenze nodded. “Thank you.”
She walked slowly along the corridor, each step weighted. Her thoughts were in disarray.
Before coming here she had hoped to glean from Chu Tianqiu a method to awaken Qiaoyun, yet events had unfolded in a manner entirely beyond her expectations.
And never mind the fact that there was no way to truly awaken Qiaoyun—even if it were possible, would it really be fair to her?
She had already endured so much pain. Should she be roused once more, only to be thrown back into the fray?
‘What should I do…?’ Zhang Chenze sighed in deep frustration, resenting her own lack of intelligence, unable to devise any solution under such circumstances.
After walking a few steps, Zhang Chenze turned a corner in the corridor and saw a slender, plain-looking young lady standing at the entrance of the teaching building. Her gaze was fixed on her, giving Zhang Chenze a peculiar feeling.
She had a sense of familiarity with this young lady, yet could not recall exactly who she was.
“Lawyer Zhang?” the young lady called out.
“Yes,” Zhang Chenze nodded. “And you are?”
“I’m Xu Liunian,” the young lady replied. “Were you looking for me?”
“I…” Zhang Chenze was about to nod in affirmation, but suddenly remembered something. “How did you know?”
“I…” Xu Liunian smiled. “I happened to pass by the door and overheard you just now, so I decided to wait here for you.”
“I see,” Zhang Chenze said, nodding.
“What did you want to see me about?” Xu Liunian asked.
“I…” Zhang Chenze found herself at a loss for words. Chu Tianqiu’s words still lingered heavily in her mind. “I don’t even know whether coming to you was with purpose or without… There’s just so much I can’t make sense of…”
“You want to ask me why I returned to being a {participant}?”
“Yes…” Zhang Chenze nodded. “I originally came here just to seek an answer, but now—”
“This is indeed something only I could accomplish,” Xu Liunian replied. “You should also realize, if there truly were a way for {indigenous inhabitants} to return to being {participants}… how could there still be so many {indigenous inhabitants} here? How many people, day after day, yearn for their teammates to regain clarity? And how many formidable figures have already sought out every possible method of awakening them?”
“Right…” At Xu Liunian’s reasoning, Zhang Chenze gave a dazed nod. “I suppose I was being a bit naive.”
“So, don’t you think that there’s a possibility…” Xu Liunian slowly leaned closer to Zhang Chenze, her voice gradually lowering.
“What?”
“Let the Qiaoyun in front of us be…and then create a new Qiaoyun?” The words Xu Liunian whispered flowed like a haunting melody, echoing persistently in Zhang Chenze’s mind.
“I…I don’t quite grasp your words…” Zhang Chenze frowned, looking at Xu Liunian. “What do you mean, let the Qiaoyun in front of us be and create a new Qiaoyun? Is that even a feasible method?”
“It may not work for others…” Xu Liunian lowered her voice even further. “But for Qi Xia, it is feasible.”
“Qi Xia…?”
“You might not know but…” Xu Liunian said softly. “Qi Xia’s {Reverberation} allows him to use his subconscious to create a person…”
Zhang Chenze’s eyes widened, and she fixed her gaze on Xu Liunian’s. Her mind raced, trying to comprehend the implications of those words.
“Xu Liunian…I don’t understand the existence of {Reverberations} very well,” Zhang Chenze said. “But I’ve seen a few people unleash this extraordinary ability…could one person’s power really be to {create a person}?”
“If {Nüwa} could create humans…” Xu Liunian smiled, “why can’t we {Reverberatees} do the same?”
“Huh?” Zhang Chenze’s brow furrowed tightly. In that instant, she felt as if everyone at {Passage to Heaven} had gone mad. “Why would we be able to perform what {Nüwa} is capable of?”
“Because if {Nüwa} can… {Reverberatees} can too,” Xu Liunian replied. “The strategy I’m telling you about…concerns the ultimate fate of this land. Whether you can accomplish it or not, you must keep it secret.”
“B–But why are you telling me such an important matter?” Zhang Chenze asked, confused.
“Because you can gain not only Qi Xia’s trust but also Chu Tianqiu’s trust…” Xu Liunian reached out and patted Zhang Chenze’s shoulder. “You and Qi Xia come from the same probation room, and you once played an important role in Chu Tianqiu’s memories… Neither of them will make things difficult for you.”
