Chapter 345 I Beg of You

Yun Yao felt her legs begin to tremble uncontrollably from exhaustion. Although she was more physically trained than the average person, carrying a grown man for such a long distance was still a severe strain on her.

Xu Qian and Yan Zhichun accompanied her to the entrance of {Passage to Heaven}.

Today’s sentinels, Ole Lu and Specs, spotted Yun Yao immediately and were shocked. She was covered in blood, and on her back she carried a man who was drenched in crimson. Judging by the bleeding, his survival seemed unlikely.

“Yun Yao, what happened to you?” Ole Lu asked with concern.

“I’m fine. It’s not me who’s injured; it’s Chen Junnan,” Yun Yao directed urgently. “Go get a doctor, hurry and prepare something to stop the bleeding!”

Ole Lu immediately turned and ran into the teaching building, while the thin Specs stepped forward to examine Chen Junnan carefully.

After a short while, he shook his head; Chen Junnan’s condition was far too severe.

“Yun Yao, there’s no point in saving this man anymore,” Specs said regretfully. “Even if you manage to stop his bleeding, he won’t heal in time and will only suffer more. It’s better to let him go peacefully sooner rather than later.”

Yun Yao’s eyes turned cold as she spoke slowly, “How much he suffers is none of my concern, but I absolutely cannot let this man die. He wagered his life against Terrestrial Snake and won. I will use him to prove to everyone that it’s possible to survive betting against a Terrestrial-grade {Earthly Branches}.”

Specs was taken aback. He distinctly sensed an eerie determination emanating from Yun Yao. “He won a life-staking gamble against a {Terrestrial-grade}?”

“Exactly. In all these years, what Chu Tianqiu failed to achieve, he managed to accomplish,” Yun Yao wiped the fine sweat from her forehead, then shook Terrestrial Snake’s severed head in her hand. “You should be able to tell what this is, right?”

Specs squinted and immediately recognized it as the head of a Terrestrial-grade {Earthly Branch}. But who exactly was this Chen Junnan? How could he accomplish such a feat?

Xu Qian looked up at the school building, realizing that this organization was far larger than she had imagined.

Yan Zhichun muttered softly beside her, “{Passage to Heaven}...”

“Okay!” Ole Lu appeared with two young men, carrying a backless bench as he ran out. “Quick! Put him down! I just asked around, there’s a doctor surnamed Zhao here. Maybe he can save him!”

Xu Qian and Yun Yao helped lay Chen Junnan down on the bench, and hurried toward Doctor Zhao’s room.

After several fierce jolts, Chen Junnan slowly opened his eyes. His pupils seemed a bit unfocused, and after a long moment, he blinked slowly, glancing up at the dark red sky.

“Wait…” he said weakly, “You all wait…”

“What’s wrong?” Ole Lu asked anxiously. “Youngster, you’re in critical condition! Don’t talk.”

“I said wait…” Chen Junnan reached out with effort, grabbing the hem of Ole Lu’s shirt. “Bro, tell them to stop…”

“What for?” Ole Lu frowned. “Punk, don’t you want to live anymore?”

“This Young Master… needs to take a piss…” Chen Junnan gave a bitter smile. “There’s girls around; it’s awkward…”

“You’re in no state to care about that! Punk, just pee your pants!” Ole Lu snapped angrily.

“That won’t do…” Chen Junnan summoned all his strength to sit up, then strained his hands. “Da ge, I know you’re a good man, but please, just let me take a piss first…”

“Alas, the younger generation these days…” Ole Lu sighed helplessly, gesturing for the two young men to stop. Then he turned to the three girls, “Hey… you three, step back for a bit. This punk insists on peeing now…”

The three girls halted and stared at the bloodied Chen Junnan.

Chen Junnan wobbled unsteadily to his feet, then staggered toward the side.

“Punk, let me help you,” Ole Lu said worriedly, grabbing Chen Junnan’s arm, but Chen Junnan shook him off.

“No need, bro. This kind of thing’s gotta be done alone.” With a wave of his hand, Chen Junnan slowly made his way toward the decaying heap of corpses on the sports field.

Yun Yao shook her head and bent down, massaging her leg. She’d already heard the bell toll when they arrived—her {Potent Luck} had ended—but now, standing inside {Passage to Heaven}’s territory, Yan Zhichun beside her probably wouldn’t cause trouble.

“Say,” Yan Zhichun smiled at Yun Yao, “Aren’t you going to follow him?”

Yun Yao lifted her head, frowning slightly. “Is that necessary?”

“Isn’t he important to you?” Yan Zhichun said, “After what you said just now, I thought you were a smart one; I didn’t expect you’d be so careless.”

“What…?” Yun Yao blinked, carefully considering Yan Zhichun’s words. Then she turned her gaze to Chen Junnan, who had reached the pile of corpses, leaned on Qiao Jiajins’ body for a moment’s rest, and then slowly picked up a stone from the ground.

“Oh no!”

Just as Chen Junnan was about to smash the stone against his forehead, Yun Yao suddenly appeared and grabbed his arm tightly.

“Chen Junnan!” Yun Yao called out, “What are you doing!?”

“Huh…?” Chen Junnan turned his head absentmindedly. “What doing what? Superstar, move aside… this young master just wants to die…”

“You can’t die!” Yun Yao snatched the stone from Chen Junnan’s hand and threw it far away. “You barely survived the Terrestrial Snake’s arena, how can you give up so easily?”

“You…” Chen Junnan looked exhausted. He slowly bent over, hands resting on his knees, gasping for breath. “Superstar… you’re being hard on me… I just want a quiet place to die…”

His voice grew softer, almost inaudible.

“I haven’t troubled anyone, have I?” Chen Junnan’s voice trembled. “I’m in so much pain… I don’t want to live even one more minute. I just want to die beside my xiōngdì…

“Y–You can’t die.” Yun Yao said firmly.

“Please…” Chen Junnan’s lips trembled. “Let me die… I beg of you…”

Yun Yao’s eyes darkened with grief, but she refused to release his arm. “Chen Junnan… I know you’re suffering, but I truly can’t let you die.”

“Not listening, huh…” Chen Junnan’s eyes slowly glazed over. “So this young master’s run into yet another damn thug…”

“Ole Lu!” Yun Yao stared at Chen Junnan, her face expressionless as she shouted, “He’s done, hurry and take him to stop the bleeding.”

“Ah… got it!”

Ole Lu, along with the two young men, rushed over, gently lifted Chen Junnan back onto the bench, and started heading toward the teaching building.

Watching Yun Yao stand there dazed, Yan Zhichun stepped forward a few paces and said to her, “What’s the matter? We came all the way here, and you’re not even going to invite us in?”

TL Note: I’m not going to lie, I really feel bad for Chen Junnan, Superstar should just let him die; it’s rather selfish of her not to let him go.
