Chapter 332 The Unbeaten Fortune

“Damn…” Chen Junnan shouted, then pushed past Yun Yao and Xu Qian, stumbling forward. “Hey! What the hell are you doing?!”

But Zhong Zhen seemed completely deaf to Chen Junnan’s voice, a furious grin twisting his face as he said, “You woman… I’ve finally got you… remember what I told you?”

Yan Zhichun struggled, moving her hands desperately, but she couldn’t break free. She never fathomed that this man could be so merciless as to shatter his own eardrums.

Chen Junnan took a few hurried steps to Zhong Zhen’s side, placing a hand on his shoulder. “Hey! Let’s talk this out, let her go first—”

“Get lost!!” Zhong Zhen bellowed, throwing a punch that struck Chen Junnan squarely in the chest. Given Chen Junnan’s weakened condition, there was no dodging it; he was knocked flat to the ground.

“Dammit…” Chen Junnan clutched his chest, gasping for breath. Slowly, he got back to his feet. “So today, this young master meets an evil tyrant, huh?”

He was about to step forward to reason further when Yun Yao grabbed him firmly.

“Hm?” Chen Junnan paused, blinking. “Superstar, you better step back. If this really turns into a fight, this young master’s blood might end up splattered on your face.”

Yun Yao sighed, torn between amusement and exasperation. “Chen Junnan, what do you mean ‘your blood’? If you’re going to play hero, at least make sure the other guy bleeds.”

“This young master’s in bad shape today, spurting blood nonstop. But don’t worry—I won’t let that punk off easy.”

“It sounds like a personal grudge. Do you really need to get involved?” Yun Yao asked.

“I don’t care if it’s a personal grudge or not. Both of them are still alive, no? Terrestrial Snake’s game didn’t kill them, but now they’re fighting over personal grudges after it’s over. That’s just not worth it. Besides, a grown man beating a young lady to death right in front of me? I can’t stand it.”

Yun Yao sensed a strange stubbornness in Chen Junnan. Unfortunately, she knew little about his past and could only say, “That woman is clearly no ordinary character. She might be trying to kill Zhong Zhen too.”

“I’ve already paid for Zhong Zhen’s death. The iron ball never fell on his head once. If he’d been a bit smarter, he wouldn’t have gotten to this point,” Chen Junnan said seriously. “Still, one thing at a time. Either don’t let me see what happens, or if I do, I’m going to step in.”

“You— sigh, forget it…” Yun Yao gave a helpless shrug. “If you die, it’ll be more trouble. Leave it to me.”

Amid Chen Junnan’s puzzled look, Yun Yao picked up a small stone from the ground and casually tossed it.

The stone struck Zhong Zhen’s temple with perfect accuracy—but the force was light.

Zhong Zhen closed his eyes and was about to straighten himself, but his right foot landed on a loose stone. Staggering backward a few steps, he then tripped over a piece of flesh on the ground, losing control as he fell backward, hitting the back of his head against an open door.

“Ugh!” Zhong Zhen groaned miserably, clutching the back of his head as he rolled on the floor.

“Heh…” Chen Junnan nodded. “Superstar, now that’s more like your old self.”

Yun Yao stepped forward and said, “Zhong Zhen, the game is over. Stop this now.”

Zhong Zhen grumbled as he got to his feet, then glared viciously at Yun Yao. “Oh… so you’re already obtained {Potent Luck}, huh?”

Chen Junnan studied the blood on Zhong Zhen’s face, then turned to warn, “This guy’s probably deaf.”

“Deaf…?” Yun Yao said, “Since talking won’t work, then we’ll make him understand he’s outmatched.”

Zhong Zhen took a slow step forward and said, “You’re {Potent Luck}, so technically I shouldn’t mess with you. But if I kill you now, I may get my {Reverberation}. No matter what, I have to kill that woman today, otherwise I won’t be able to sleep tonight.”

“All right!” Chen Junnan suddenly shouted, “Now that Mister Suit has finished his taunt, it’s time for Miss Superstar to deliver her own.”

“Zhong Zhen, just give it up,” Yun Yao said deliberately, enunciating each word to make sure he understood. “{Potent Luck} has never lost.”

“Whoa~~” Chen Junnan called out again, “Miss Superstar keeps it concise. Who will win this match is still—”

Before he could finish, a sharp slap landed cleanly on the back of Chen Junnan’s head.

“Huh?”

“Can you tone it down a bit…?” Xu Qian said helplessly. “I think your injuries are too mild. You’re still running your mouth like this—aren’t you worried about that young woman’s safety?”

“Her?” Chen Junnan leaned slowly against the wall. “Once she hears the {Reverberation}, there’s no need for this young master to worry at all.”

No sooner had he spoken than Zhong Zhen charged forward, swinging his thick fist toward Yun Yao’s cheek.

Yun Yao didn’t dodge; she stood still.

Unexpectedly, in the midst of his advance, Zhong Zhen’s left foot caught on his right, twisting his body and sending the punch astray.

“Motherfu—” Zhong Zhen snapped back to his senses and swung his other hand around in a backhanded slap.

Unhurriedly, Yun Yao pulled a compact mirror and lipstick from her bag and began to touch up her makeup.

Zhong Zhen continued wildly swinging fists and slaps at her, yet bizarrely, not a single strike landed. He either tripped over stones on the ground or was stumbled by scattered chunks of flesh. After finally clearing the debris, Zhong Zhen raised his fist again—when suddenly, a section of the ceiling cracked overhead, falling precisely onto his arm.

“You–!!” Zhong Zhen gasped for breath, clutching his arm, eyes burning with rage. He knew that Yun Yao with {Potent Luck} was invincible; her {Reverberation} must have played a part in slaying Terrestrial Snake.

How could he possibly break this strange protective charm?

Pondering for a moment, Zhong Zhen drew a small knife from his pocket. He glanced up at Yun Yao, who was still pursing her lips before the mirror, seemingly unsatisfied with her lipstick, lightly wiping the corner of her mouth with her pinky.

‘Since killing moves don’t work…’

He brandished the knife’s blade and aimed it at Yun Yao’s neck. As long as the blade pierced her neck, no matter how slowly the bleeding, it would kill her.

But just as the thrown blade was about to touch her skin, it suddenly snapped in two with a sharp {clink}, the blade quivering briefly before falling to the ground, leaving only the handle lightly pressing against Yun Yao’s slender, fair neck.

Yun Yao snapped her compact mirror shut with a {clank}, then turned and asked, “Had enough of your tantrum?”

Zhong Zhen breathed raggedly, his whole body trembling as he sought to regain his composure.

Despite his complete deafness, Zhong Zhen read the words Yun Yao mouthed.

In Yun Yao’s eyes, he looked like a petulant child, absurdly stubborn and pathetic.

With the broken blade lying on the ground, Zhong Zhen sensed that if he continued this quarrel, some bizarre and inexplicable fate would surely cause him to be cut by that shard.

With that thought, he finally relented, letting out a deep sigh. “You all actually want to save that woman… One day, you’ll regret this decision.”

With that, he threw the knife scabbard onto the floor, cast a cold glance at Yan Zhichun, and declared calmly, “Amidst this vast sea of people, your face and {Reverberation} are firmly etched in my mind. I’ll catch you one day.”

He gave a chilling smile, then turned and walked away.

“Ding ding!” Chen Junnan, leaning against the wall, suddenly shouted, “The victor has been decided! The winner of this battle is—”

“Shut up!” Yun Yao and Xu Qian shouted in unison.

Chen Junnan shrugged helplessly and closed his mouth.

Yun Yao stepped forward, helping Yan Zhichun to her feet. “Are you alright?”

Yan Zhichun smiled faintly but didn’t answer. Instead, she circled around Yun Yao and stood beside Chen Junnan. “You’re {Penalty Proxy}, right? Fascinating. Consider yourself remembered.”

“Thanks,” Chen Junnan replied noncommittally, “This young master might not remember you.”
