Pure’s Story

Hi! I’m Pure and I want to thank you for reading my story!

It’s really roughly written, but I’ll go back and edited another day~

I’m Chinese and I was born in China when my family decided to move to the states when I was still in primary school. They said it was because they had wanted to give us a better life. However, faced with a whole new culture and language, even daily chores become super hard to complete. It was a pretty rough for us during our first decade here.

Our current life has gotten better; where I can have some free time for myself. I was finally able to explore my interests and find myself: what I want to do and who I want to be. I had only just been helping my family out. I was able to dive into the online communities and soon, I found the joy and happiness of novels, forums, and finally discord!

I was invited onto discord when I had previously done some translating work for the community. By translating, I was able to get some pocket money to buy things my family previously were unable to afford for me.

On discord, I was able to talk to others who were also in the name novel translating niche. For the first time, I realized how fun it was to socialize with others. Soon I realized that discord was not only for people in the novel community, but it held a variety of servers for many different hobbies. It was an eye opener; I could make soooo many friends at anytime, and anywhere!

And from those encounters, I found myself onto another new world: VRChat. I know there are a lot of negative stigmas about this game, but once you find the right community, it’s just like discord, except better. With the help of VR technology, you can express yourself not only with words, but also with your whole body! There was full body tracking and every finger can be tracked if you have the right device.

That’s where I met my current boyfriend. We met in a Just Dance world: where people dance in VR. (You can see me and him dancing in the video below.) He and I weren’t there to find romance, we were only just there to dance and have fun. It was all coincidence, maybe it was fate. But we later added one another on discord and started to talk.

Soon, mutual interest turned into mutual love.

However, he lives in China, and here I am, in the states. I know my family would not allow me to go, unless I can prove that I can live independently. I currently am working at my family business and have never formally sought a job outside. They do not trust me. So this is the only job I know I can do. I can build myself up from nothing, and show them I can truly do it on my own…
