Chapter 84

The moment the monthly exam results were released, the whole school buzzed with shock and chatter. Zhuo Shu, who had always held first place, was surprisingly surpassed by Ying Tongchen—a truly joyous occasion, worthy of celebration.

Zhuo Shu looked miserable, hiding in the classroom and refusing interviews, glaring resentfully at Ying Tongchen.

We promised to date, yet you secretly took first place behind my back. Don’t I deserve some face? Since you’re so heartless, don’t blame me for being unprincipled.

Sensing the resentful glare like that of a scorned woman, Ying Tongchen yawned, slowly blinked, and in a soft voice said, “Take your hands away.”

Zhuo Shu originally wanted to tickle him as punishment, but the moment he touched Ying Tongchen’s waist, he became flustered and swiftly changed his action to a pinch then pretended nothing happened.

Moments later, feeling this wasn’t enough, once Ying Tongchen sat upright, Zhuo Shu secretly held his hand to stop him from writing.

“Focus on dating,” Zhuo Shu whispered.

Ying Tongchen: “......”

The last class was P.E., and Zhuo Shu encouraged classmates to call Ying Tongchen to play basketball together.

Ying Tongchen, initially unfamiliar with the classmates, was pulled onto the court by them and began warming up. Glancing casually toward the seats by the court, he saw Zhuo Shu sitting among a group of girls, waving at him with a slight smile.

He subtly withdrew his gaze and curved his lips indifferently.

Just then, while his ‘opponent’ was distracted, Zhuo Shu quickly pulled out his exercises and began studying!

Immersed in the sea of knowledge, he suddenly heard a loud shout from a nearby girl: “Ying Tongchen, I’m going to have your baby!!”

Zhuo Shu abruptly raised his head, turned, and threatened the girls in the stands,

“Shut up, all of you.”

Seeing he had taken out the discipline notebook, the girls dared not speak, though they were angry.

Zhuo Shu then refocused on his book. After some time, the girls beside him started getting restless again; this time not shouting, but excitedly tapping their companions, tears of excitement streaming from their mouths.

Sensing something was off, Zhuo Shu looked up toward the center of the court and saw Ying Tongchen chatting with his friends, lifting the hem of his shirt to wipe the sweat from his face.

Zhuo Shu: “!”

Suddenly, a pretty young girl appeared from out of left field and handed Ying Tongchen a bottle of water.

“Stop right there!” Zhuo Shu hurriedly packed his things, scrambled over the bleachers, and rushed toward the edge of the court. By the time he arrived, the girl had already been rejected by Ying Tongchen and left.

“I’ve got water here.” Zhuo Shu pulled out a thermos from his bag. “You should drink more warm water.”

Ying Tongchen: “......”

After school, Zhuo Shu carried both of their backpacks and asked, “Have you been secretly studying at home?”

“Is that not allowed?” Ying Tongchen replied.

“So that’s how it is.” Zhuo Shu refused to admit defeat. “Next time, I’ll definitely leave you in the dust.”

“Then just try and see.” Ying Tongchen arrived in front of his home, took the backpack off Zhuo Shu’s shoulders. “Alright, you can go home now.”

“Aren’t you going to invite me in for a bit?” Zhuo Shu asked with a sly smile.

“No time, go back to your own place.”

Zhuo Shu then showed him a chat record where Tei Cher gave him permission to come over.

“He’s agreed and even said they’d eat out and come back late, so we should finish studying early,” Zhuo Shu said with conviction as he followed him upstairs. “Are you going to send me home and not even offer a drink?”

Ying Tongchen had no choice but to pour him a glass of water inside. There was no leftover food in the fridge, so he ordered takeout for dinner.

After eating, Zhuo Shu insisted on touring Ying Tongchen’s room. The moment they entered, he went straight to the desk, mainly to secretly check how Ying Tongchen studied at night.

“How do you usually arrange your tim—” Just as he turned his head back, Ying Tongchen had taken off his outer sweatshirt, accidentally lifting the shirt underneath, revealing a stretch of fair, slender waist before the hem fell back down.

“I’m going to take a shower first. You can start on your homework by yourself.”

Ying Tongchen grabbed some clean clothes and headed to the bathroom, leaving Zhuo Shu alone in the bedroom lost in a daze.

Zhuo Shu picked up a random exercise book, doodling and writing, while visions of a certain showering-man caught his imagination.

“What kind of nonsense are you drawing on my notes?” a voice came from behind.

Zhuo Shu snapped back to reality, “Oh… I’m working on some problems.”

Ying Tongchen reached out and took the book from him, leaning in to look at the writing. The clean exercise questions had been doodled all over with little matchstick figures, clearly drawn with undisclosable thoughts.

Zhuo Shu caught a clean, fresh scent and turned to look, just catching his neck.

Ying Tongchen wore simple loungewear, exposing a fair nape with damp ends of hair, soft and tender.

Unable to resist, Zhuo Shu reached out and stroked his head.

Startled, Ying Tongchen turned to meet his gaze.

Their eyes locked.

Zhuo Shu pulled him into his arms, made him sit on his lap, held his head, and kissed him on the lips.

Ying Tongchen shifted to a more comfortable position, reciprocating the affection, and asked, “What problems are you working on? I can barely see the questions now.”

“What’s there to see when you’ve got me; I’ll explain the problems to you.” Zhuo Shu greedily inhaled his scent while stammering out the questions from the exercise book. Then, slowly pulling back, he kissed Ying Tongchen’s lips intermittently, “So, what’s the answer?”

Ying Tongchen looked at his lips, his gaze shimmering. He pinched Zhuo Shu’s chin and went in deeper. “You’ve succeeded.”

That night, Ying Tongchen couldn’t focus on studying, but instead unlocked a new way to get intimate. With two hot-blooded youths all tangled up like that, crossing the line was practically inevitable.

Hiding in the bathroom, Zhuo Shu nervously said, “I’ve never tried this before. Should we look up how to do it first?”

“Isn’t it obvious from the reactions?” Ying Tongchen observed his changing expression and reached out to help him out.

After helping each other, Zhuo Shu had long forgotten the purpose of coming tonight and clung to him, kissing and hugging.

Tei Cher and Lae Leon returned home late at night, only to find Zhuo Shu still there, the door to Ying Tongchen’s room wide open. They peaked inside and saw the two of them deeply focused on discussing a math problem.

After greeting them, the two adults went back to their room.

Tei Cher closed the door to their bedroom, laughing until he bent over. “Did they not notice they were holding a literature exercise book?”

Zhuo Shu reclaimed first place during the final exams, which put Ying Tongchen in a very sour mood. Originally, he didn’t have such a fierce competitive streak about rankings, but Zhuo Shu was just too infuriating; once the results were out, he kept flaunting them in front of him, mentioning his scores every three sentences.

An odd sense of rivalry grew stronger.

Throughout their senior year, the two constantly engaged in open and covert battles. But every time their classmates thought their relationship had broken down, the two would get along like close brothers again, leaving everyone puzzled.

After the college entrance exam, Mu Qing happily organized a family trip that both sides were supposed to attend.

However, Zhuo Shu insisted on traveling independently with Ying Tongchen, refusing to join their group. So they split up, the adults went abroad while Zhuo Shu booked domestic destinations.

He had grand plans, intending to give Ying Tongchen a pleasant surprise.

When Ying Tongchen stood at the foot of a wild, desolate mountain, he sighed in despair, “Why do I have such a bad feeling about this?”

Zhuo Shu scratched his head. “Looks like we took the wrong way.”

“Let’s go back,” Ying Tongchen insisted, refusing to climb the mountain. They walked toward the roadside for a while, but passing cars were few and far between, and they couldn’t catch a ride.

At long last, Zhuo Shu finally managed to flag down the robust vehicle approaching them. “Mister, can you give us a lift for a bit?”

“No problem!” the mister replied enthusiastically.

Ying Tongchen sat inside the tractor, looking up at the sky. Surrounded by stalks of hay, accompanied by the vehicle’s sputtering noise, he hugged his knees and silently cursed Zhuo Shu.

Zhuo Shu put his arm around his shoulder, forcing a comforting tone, “Well, this counts as experiencing something new, no?”

Lurching, the tractor abruptly stopped. The mister carefully inspected it and said, “Youngsters, can y’alls help give me a push from the back?”

Ying Tongchen: “...”

The two boys pushed hard from behind for quite a while, the exhaust smoke blowing into their faces. The tractor sputtered once again.

Ying Tongchen touched his face, looking like a soulless zombie.

After arriving at the city center, they said goodbye to the mister and bought tickets back home.

In the waiting room, they had an area all to themselves—no one dared sit near the disheveled pair.

Zhuo Shu gently brushed the hay out of Ying Tongchen’s hair and off his back, then wiped the dirt from his face without a hint of disgust. Taking his hand, he asked, “They won’t be back for a few more days. Is there anywhere else you want to go?”

“No,” Ying Tongchen pulled his hand back and glanced at Zhuo Shu’s head full of hay, then gave him a rough shake. “Let’s break up! I can’t live like this anymore.”

“Too late,” Zhuo Shu chuckled. “If you’d known it would be like this, why did you have to seduce me in the first place?”

“When did I seduce you?” Ying Tongchen asked.

“You’re just trying to dodge responsibility now, huh?” Zhuo Shu scolded seriously. “What, now that you’re grown and graduated, you think you can skirt responsibility for your previous actions?”

Ying Tongchen’s expression frosted over. “Then tell me, what exactly did I do to you?”

"Fine, I’ll say it. I’ve been holding this in for way too long!" Zhuo Shu’s frustration nearly burst his stomach. “Why do you keep smiling at me for no reason? Don’t you know how deadly your smile is? Every time I see it, my mind goes blank. How am I supposed to focus on anything else?”

“I—!” Ying Tongchen suddenly swallowed the curse he was about to spit out, his eyes filled with question marks.

“See? Look at you, staring at me like that again.” Zhuo Shu pointed at his eyes, so angry his hands trembled. “Alright, I get it, your eyes are pretty. But you keep looking at me like that for no reason! It's like you want to say something but hold back, like you want to resist but can’t, like you’re driving me crazy. If that’s not deliberately seducing me, then what is?”

Ying Tongchen was speechless. “...What else?”

“There’s plenty more! You dress up all flamboyantly every day, turning a perfectly good school uniform into some kind of scandalous outfit, parading right under my nose, purposely distracting me from studying.” Zhuo Shu listed off complaints. “And your mouth—”

“Enough.” Ying Tongchen rubbed his forehead, half annoyed, half amused. “Stop it.”

Zhuo Shu: “Why can’t I keep talking? You seduced me, then tried to ditch me—is this scumbag behavior or what?”

Various voices: “Right right!”

Ying Tongchen was momentarily stunned, then looked around left and right, only to realize that several rows of onlookers had quietly gathered, all nodding and agreeing enthusiastically.

Ying Tongchen: “......”

Zhuo Shu’s face remained dark with displeasure when he brought Ying Tongchen home.

“Shower?” Ying Tongchen glanced at their dirty clothes.

“Yeah.” He was still unhappy.

After both had showered and changed into clean clothes, Ying Tongchen took the worn ones to toss into the washing machine. While checking his pocket, he felt a box inside Zhuo Shu’s pocket.

“...What’s this?”

Seeing him holding the ‘essentials’ he had prepared, Zhuo Shu’s heart raced nervously but he maintained a domineering, confident front: “Oh, since you’ve seen it, just pick whichever flavor you like.”

Ying Tongchen turned back, his gaze icy cold: “There’s even choices?”

Zhuo Shu opened the backpack he always carried with him, shaking out more than a dozen boxes.

Ying Tongchen: "......"

Zhuo Shu gave an awkward smile: "S–Surprise!"

Ying Tongchen reciprocated the present with several knucklehead sandwiches.

That night, Zhuo Shu found countless excuses to stay over.

Lying quietly on the bed for a moment, Ying Tongchen asked, "Which university do you want to go to?"

"Just the one in this city. What about you? Not planning to go far, right?"

Ying Tongchen pondered for a moment: "Hmm."

Zhuo Shu turned over, held his hand, and smiled deeply. "Don’t worry, my goal is the same as yours."

"You know which one I want to get into?"

"Every time we go out, when we pass by there, your gaze always lingers."

Zhuo Shu said, "Soon we'll be schoolmates, then partners, and later we’ll go abroad to get our marriage certificate. After that, we'll be an old couple."

Ying Tongchen laughed, "You sure think ahead."

"Regardless, my future will definitely include you. What about you?" Zhuo Shu looked at him seriously.

Ying Tongchen slowly leaned closer and planted a kiss on his lips.

"The stuff?"

"In the living room."

Zhuo Shu immediately snapped out of it, immediately  jumped down from the bed, and went to find it.

Before long, rustling sounds came from the bedroom.

"How is it?" Zhuo Shu asked expectantly.

Ying Tongchen faintly smiled: Don't ask, curiosity killed the cat.

But since it was their first time, he didn’t want to hurt his boyfriend’s confidence, so he offered some encouragement.

Ying Tongchen mechanically recited, "You’re so big! It’s too good, I’m about to die."

Zhuo Shu: (*^▽^*)
