Mistaken Canary Chapter 10 (Part 1)
Chapter 10.1
Zhuo Shu wore a helpless expression. "Let’s stick to the original plan."
Choosing Ying Tongchen was too much of a gamble; it was better to wait and find a more suitable resource eventually.
The various departments then proceeded with detailed presentations of the National Day event plans. With the plans approved, they were tasked with implementation.
After the meeting, Zhuo Shu called Mi Shu into his office. He pondered for a moment. "Do we know any directors or producers?" he asked.
"What?" Mi Shu thought she had misheard.
Zhuo Shu waved his hand. "Never mind, let me ask a different question. Are there any films or TV shows that need investment?"
"There are quite a few,” Mi Shu replied. “Which one are you interested in?" She immediately suspected the reason for the spontaneous question. It was likely for his little lover.
Not long ago, at the boss's request, she had contacted the manager for a freshly signed artist, getting involved in the soliciting business...
The recurring transfers to a specific bank account, coupled with the recent house viewings she'd arranged, made Mi Shu suddenly realize how cunning this little lover was.
Mi Shu inquired, "Does this gentleman have any aspirations to act in a film or TV show?"
"Doesn’t seem like it." Zhuo Shu fell into deep thought.
He realized he had no idea what kind of roles Ying Tongchen might be interested in. He’d never given any hints. Ying Tongchen seemed solely focused on cultivating the "Cinderella" persona to capture his attention.
Mi Shu: "..."
Oh no, it was obvious her boss was completely smitten, eager to shower him with houses and every resource imaginable.
"The planning department has been in constant contact with people in the entertainment industry recently,” Zhuo Shu instructed. “Keep tabs on them. See if there are any good opportunities for newcomers."
Since Ying Tongchen was putting so much effort into winning his favor, he didn’t mind giving him a little reward in return.
"Understood."
"Oh right, aren't I going on a business trip the day after tomorrow?" Zhuo Shu glanced at the calendar and pulled out a scrap of paper from his wallet. "If you find a suitable property, contact him and have him check it out. Just say it’s something I set up."
"Okay." Mi Shu took the worn paper, glanced at the name and phone number on it, and was utterly flabbergasted.
It was well known that her boss was single, a point often emphasized by wealthy young men at social gatherings, who teased him about his wealth but no one to warm his bed.
Now, in what felt like an instant, he not only had someone to warm his bed but had also become remarkably warmer. His constant stream of instructions was almost cloyingly sweet, overly considerate.
What’s more, he was keeping his contact in his wallet for so long that this piece of paper was practically antique!
Boss, what’s going on with you?
"Boss, may I dare to ask..." Mi Shu looked at her increasingly high-spirited boss, "Are you... going steady?"
"Nonsense, drivel, preposterous!" Zhuo Shu denied vehemently thrice, adjusting his tie with a casual air. "How could I possibly be going steady? Work is my lover."
"Oh," Mi Shu thought to herself, I hope you remember that line.
Returning to her desk, Mi Shu considered heading to the planning department but quickly realized she'd be wandering aimlessly. It made more sense to first inquire with the manager about their current projects.
She sifted through the drawer crammed with business cards and found the manager's number.
The phone was answered almost instantly, the voice on the other end sweet as honey. "Hello, is this a call for business cooperation?"
Mi Shu smiled. "Hello, I'm Secretary Mi from K.W, Chairman Zhuo’s secretary. We’ve been in touch before regarding a certain 'collaboration.' There’s a matter I need to inquire of you about."
The voice turned rough. "Oh, he’s not being obedient, huh? I knew you’d come to me sooner or later, but none of it is my fault. If he’d been obedient, he’d be famous by now. He's not my responsibility anymore. You'll have to contact him yourself."
Mi Shu’s smile froze, confusion filling her mind. "What do you mean? Are you saying you’ve stopped managing him?"
"Yep, whoever wants him can take him. I've never seen someone so clueless about what's good for them," the manager growled before abruptly hanging up.
Mi Shu stared at her phone, a wave of pity washing over her. She quickly redialed, and before the manager could get a word in, Mi Shu retorted, "Woman, you’ll regret looking down on him. He’s destined for stardom." With the resources our boss is pouring into him, he can't fail.
Mi Shu felt a surge of satisfaction as she ended the call.
…
Two days later, after seeing Zhuo Shu off for his business trip abroad, Mi Shu returned to the office to catch up on work. She found the business card for Yale Lexis Studio and placed a call to the contact person regarding the event details.
"Hello?" A clear, crisp voice rang through the line, causing Mi Shu's hands to tremble with excitement.
"Hello, may I ask if this is... Mr. Ying Tongchen?" Mi Shu double-checked the name on the card.
Wait a minute!!
That name sounds so familiar!
"It’s me." Ying Tongchen glanced at the number. "Is this Miss Mi Shu from K.W?"
"Yes,” Mi Shu replied, flipping through her drawer. “I’d like to schedule a meeting to finalize the details and schedule for the National Day event." She carefully retrieved the heavily creased piece of paper from the most visible spot and asked hesitantly, "Just to confirm, you are Mr. Ying... Tongchen, correct?"
"That's correct, it's me." Ying Tongchen paused for a moment. "Miss Mi, is something going on over there?"
Mi Shu nearly fell off her chair, flustered. "It—It’s nothing, hoho."
"Then when shall we meet?" Ying Tongchen glanced at his schedule. "I’m free after 5 p.m. today, or we can try another day?"
"Tonight works for me."
After hanging up, Mi Shu was left in a state of utter confusion.
What’s going on here? The name of her boss’s lover is Ying Tongchen, and now the person who’s going to be the boss’s translator is also named Ying Tongchen? Is this name a popular one?
Mi Shu longed to call her boss for clarification, but knowing he was still on the plane, she could only return to her work, her mind buzzing with questions.
