Chapter 10 Sweet Moments
Celebrating their first 24 hours as a couple was a romantic, sweet, and meaningful affair.
At present, they were standing by the side of the tree-lined path, the dim evening light making their faces indistinguishable from a distance. Finally, they could have a true world of their own, without anyone else watching.
Facing him, Ruan Yiyun slowly shut his eyes, a subtle smile on his lips, strikingly similar to the image in his dream. And now, no one was stopping him from getting closer.
Guo Wei, excited yet anxious, cautiously approached, holding his breath. He wanted to close his eyes but hesitated.
Just a bit further forward, and their lips could touch. Guo Wei took a shallow breath, the familiar scent rushing into his nostrils, bringing palpitations and more courage.
He pursed his trembling lips, tightly closed his eyes, and bravely leaned forward. Before their lips could touch, his nose bumped into Ruan Yiyun's, causing him to tilt backward.
Realizing something was amiss, Guo Wei hastily opened his eyes.
He had initially planned to say sorry, even wanted to express, "I'm not very skilled at this." However, when he saw those eyes, brimming with a smile and so close, all words instantly vanished from his mind.
Guo Wei stood frozen, stuck nose-to-nose with Ruan Yiyun in an awkward position, grinning foolishly.
Smiling back, Ruan Yiyun reached out, wrapping the back of his neck. He slightly tilted his head, lifted his chin, and willingly closed the gap.
Their lips briefly met, only to part again swiftly.
Guo Wei remained dazed throughout this process.
The first kiss of his life, intertwined with the faint yet sweet fragrance in the air between their breaths.
He felt a tingling sensation down his spine, his thoughts sluggish, strange "thump-thump" sounds echoing in his ears.
After a moment, he gently licked his lips.
"My heart is racing so fast," he said, blushing. "Feel it."
Ruan Yiyun lifted his hand, pressing it against the left side of Guo Wei's chest.
"It's quite noisy now," Guo Wei remarked.
Ruan Yiyun quietly felt for a moment and said, "It seems to really like me."
Guo Wei nodded. "Hmm."
After speaking, he took a deep breath, trying to calm himself down, then added, "Very, very much."
Ruan Yiyun smiled again, asking him, "Want to celebrate a bit more?"
"Celebrate what?" Guo Wei asked stupidly.
"Celebrate..." Ruan Yiyun pondered, "Celebrate the one-minute commemoration of our first kiss."
It sounded reasonable, worth putting into action immediately.
As Guo Wei approached, he whispered, "Let me try this time."
Carefully turning his face, he successfully avoided Ruan Yiyun's nose but ended up poking his own nose against Ruan Yiyun's cheek.
Fortunately, their lips also touched.
"So difficult." Guo Wei sighed after separating. "Where do others put their noses at times like this?"
"Don't know," Ruan Yiyun said. "Maybe it takes more practice."
While speaking, he once again embraced Guo Wei's shoulders, closing his eyes.
Guo Wei's phone in his pocket vibrated again. It was probably Wang Tong, wondering why he hadn't responded yet. Guo Wei had clicked on the link earlier and had seen some of the replies, which were not very nice.
Being optimistic and cheerful didn't mean his heart was as solid as a rock. However, the slight gloom from strangers' malicious comments seemed insignificant in the face of such great joy.
Ruan Yiyun's soft lips rendered all skepticism powerless.
This time, he finally remembered to escort Ruan Yiyun back to his dorm.
On the way, they discussed their past relationship experiences. Guo Wei was like a blank canvas, easily explained in a few words. What surprised him, however, was that Ruan Yiyun had never been in a relationship before.
"I matured late. Perhaps because my differentiation came late, I never developed such mindset," Ruan Yiyun told him. "I didn't realize the difference between myself and Beta until much later. I always found Alphas to be a bit off-putting."
"How late?" Guo Wei asked.
"After high school," Ruan Yiyun replied, "probably not long before I took the photo on my student ID."
That was indeed quite late. Normally, those who hadn't differentiated by the end of high school were automatically considered Beta.
Guo Wei turned his head, carefully observing him for a moment, silently reflecting.
Among Omegas, Ruan Yiyun was undoubtedly tall. Standing together, their height difference was almost imperceptible. If not for Wang Tong mentioning his gender beforehand, Guo Wei might have easily misidentify him.
Long-acting inhibitors had been available for over half a century, and nowadays, Omegas almost never experience heat before being marked. If differentiation occured late, a lack of psychological identification with their second gender was not surprising.
Interestingly, Ruan Yiyun always considered himself a Beta. Hence, being together with another Beta was only natural.
Guo Wei held his hand, earnestly promising, "Even though I can't mark you, I will do my utmost to make you happy."
Ruan Yiyun turned to look at him, a smile playing on his lips. "No wonder your face is so red, thinking about such things."
Guo Wei was momentarily confused, blinking in bewilderment.
A few seconds passed in a daze before he finally snapped out of it, hastily shaking his head in panic. "That's not what I meant! I..."
Ruan Yiyun squeezed the hand he's holding, pulling him a bit closer. Looking into his eyes, he said, "How do you know you can't mark me?"
Guo Wei was momentarily stunned.
Because he was a Beta, and only Alphas could mark Omegas, common knowledge.
Yet Ruan Yiyun said to him, "How do you know if you don't try?"
"...It's just not possible." Guo Wei was somewhat flustered. "Didn't you learn about this in physiology class? Did the teacher skip over it?"
Ruan Yiyun remained silent for a few seconds, then, expressionless, looked ahead at the road and let out a shallow sigh.
"Um, you know, Betas can't be marked," Guo Wei, fearing that Ruan Yiyun might genuinely be unaware, explained seriously, "Betas can neither mark nor be marked. But, I believe that love itself is a pure thing. Even without these extra bonds, as long as two people like each other, they can still move forward."
Ruan Yiyun nodded. "Yes, you're right."
His expression and tone seemed a bit perfunctory, causing Guo Wei to worry.
"...Will you be disappointed?" he asked.
"No, not at all," Ruan Yiyun said, "Just thinking..."
"What?"
Ruan Yiyun smiled at him. "You're really cute."
It seemed Ruan Yiyun chose him due to gender identity crisis coupled with a lack of physiological knowledge.
Guo Wei couldn't help but feel complex emotions.
He was worried that Ruan Yiyun might still harbor unrealistic expectations and end up disappointed in the future.
Apart from marking, he had indeed heard some rumors about certain disharmonies between Omegas and Betas in relationships. Guo Wei used to dismiss them with a smile, but now, he began to worry.
Compared to Alphas, Betas indeed had inherent limitations in this aspect.
Fortunately, he still had room for improvement. Many things could be learned gradually during the process of love. Not long ago, he didn't even know how to connect a kiss, but now, after some practice, at least he could properly position his nose.
To explore together intimately with the one you love, mutually adjusting and adapting, was a beautiful thing in itself.
Worrying about these things now was premature. They had only been dating for a day, and kissing was just a light touch of the lips. Overthinking made him seem too eager and a bit disrespectful to Ruan Yiyun.
Guo Wei quickly adjusted his mindset on the way back to the dorm. By the time he opened the door, he was already in a cheerful mood.
Then, he noticed that none of his three roommates looked very friendly.
"I f*cking sent you a hundred and eighty thousand messages! Didn't you see any of them? I thought you got kidnapped by one of Ruan Yiyun's hardcore fans and thrown into the river in a sack!" Wang Tong scolded.
"Sorry, sorry," Guo Wei apologized shamefully. "I saw them and then forgot... after all, it was a date, hehe."
"Damn it!" Eldest Brother Jin wailed, pounding the bed. "A date! You're on a date with Ruan Yiyun! Is there any justice in this world?"
Guo Wei scratched his head, silently walking to his desk, and put down his bag. In his mind, he thought happily, "Not just a date. We even kissed." Ruan Yiyun's lips were fragrant and soft, truly wonderful.
Third Elder Brother didn't seem interested in Ruan Yiyun romantically but was quite enthusiastic about gossip. He eagerly asked Guo Wei, "Did you really start dating with that Ruan guy? How did you meet? How long have you known each other?"
Wang Tong cut in at this moment, "I said you've only known each other for a week, but they don't believe it."
"We happened to meet a few days ago at school," Guo Wei said, picking up his phone while attempting to reopen the post Wang Tong had sent him earlier. "I took the initiative to strike up a conversation, and things went smoothly... Huh?"
Both of the others, except for Wang Tong, wore expressions of disbelief.
"What's wrong?" Wang Tong asked.
"The post has been hidden. I can't open it," Guo Wei said. "Did the deletion request you helped me send get approved?"
"No." Wang Tong shook his head. "That mod is so annoying, saying unless you prove you're involved, he won't interfere with others' freedom of discussion."
Guo Wei didn't think too much about it and put his phone down. "Maybe their conscience kicked in!"
Eldest Brother Jin, not caring much about these details, was shocked for a moment before finally regaining his composure. He asked again, "So what's the deal with him and that person surnamed Chen? They really don't have that kind of relationship?"
"Who is this person surnamed Chen that you keep talking about?" Guo Wei asked.
Seeing Eldest Brother Jin's surprised expression as if saying, "You don't even know about this," Wang Tong hurriedly explained, "It's the Alpha I mentioned last time, the one who's close to Ruan Yiyun."
Guo Wei furrowed his brow.
At least in these past two days, there hadn't been a trace of any Alpha around Ruan Yiyun. Since Ruan Yiyun claimed to have no previous romantic experiences, Guo Wei naturally trusted him unconditionally.
"Just friends," he told Eldest Brother Jin. "He seems to not like Alphas."
While saying this, he received a message from Ruan Yiyun.
——Are you back in the dorm? Rest early!
Guo Wei's heart skipped a beat. He accidentally swiped his hand and tapped on Ruan Yiyuan's profile picture again. A line of gray text appeared on the system: I patted "Yun"
Guo Wei, recalling the bizarre patting notification he had seen last time, voiced his question.
——How did you delete the previous one?
Ruan Yiyun responded quickly.
——Ah?
——Are you back in the dorm?
——Give me a kiss.
Guo Wei blushed. Even though he knew his roommates couldn't see his screen clearly at the moment, he guiltily raised his phone and sent a kissing emoji.
After sending it, he casually entered Ruan Yiyun's Moments and found that Ruan Yiyun had recently posted a new photo.
Upon understanding the content, his eyes immediately widened.
After escorting Ruan Yiyun to the dorm earlier, he quickly left after saying goodbye. Little did he know, Ruan Yiyun didn't immediately go upstairs but stayed in place to secretly capture his silhouette.
Underneath the image, Ruan Yiyun used the index finger and thumb of his other hand to form a heart shape, as if cradling his slightly blurred figure from a distance.
"Yes, I'm in love, feeling great. I don't want to hear anything except blessings. Thanks for your cooperation!"
